Tech Hiring & Training Kit
Hire carefully, train on purpose, and know who on your crew is signed off on what.
What it does
Most tire shops train the same way: a new tech shadows whoever's free, and nobody writes down what they learned. This kit gives you both halves: a repeatable hiring process, and a training system that ends every job in a written sign-off.
The core Tech Hiring Kit ($39 on its own) covers hiring from start to finish:
- a pay range built from public wage data;
- job ads, a phone screen and interview questions;
- a hands-on skills test and a 30/60/90 onboarding plan;
- a tracker with a Skills Matrix and Sign-Off Log.
The Tire Tech Training & Sign-Off Library (only in this kit) adds a trainer guide and 10 training modules for the bay. Each module:
- teaches one job with key points tied to named public sources (OSHA, USTMA, TIA, ALI, NHTSA, manufacturers);
- lists the common mistakes and when to stop and ask;
- ends with a sign-off checklist, a quiz and an answer key.
The library uses the same 30 skill names as the tracker's Skills Matrix, so every sign-off drops straight into the log.
No numbers to go out of date. The library never prints torque values, inflation or bead-seating pressures, or repair limits. Every one is "per vehicle manufacturer specification" or "per tire manufacturer and USTMA guidance", with where techs look it up.
What the training library covers:
- T-00 Trainer Guide: show, do together, watch, sign off; levels 0–3; re-checks and records; where techs look up every number; a safety-critical skills wall checklist.
- T-01 Shop safety, PPE, compressed air & chemicals
- T-02 Lifting & raising the vehicle
- T-03 Wheel removal & installation, torque & re-torque (with a star-pattern drawing)
- T-04 Demounting, mounting & inflation, including C-type light truck tires
- T-05 Balancing & runout
- T-06 TPMS: identify, service, relearn, diagnose
- T-07 Puncture repair per industry standard (with a repairable-area drawing)
- T-08 Tire inspection, DOT codes & customer-supplied tires
- T-09 Rotation & placement of new tires
- T-10 Commercial & multi-piece rim wheels: awareness only ("don't touch it, refer it")
- Training sign-off cards, one per module, for each tech's file

Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. Not legal advice. These are templates. Adapt them to your equipment, your shop's procedures and your state's rules, and follow manufacturer specifications and OSHA.
Is this a certification?
No. Not a certification. It complements formal training such as TIA ATS. Sign-offs are your shop's own records of what a tech has shown they can do.
Who is responsible for the work?
A qualified technician or trainer is responsible for every job and every sign-off. Follow vehicle and tire manufacturer specifications, OSHA and state rules.
Why are there no torque or pressure numbers?
They differ by vehicle, wheel and tire, and they change. Techs look them up every time: the vehicle maker's service information and tire placard, the tire maker's guidance, and the USTMA chart posted in the bay.
Has the safety content been reviewed?
It was source-checked internally, line by line, against current (2026) OSHA, TIA, USTMA and ALI sources, and the owner approved it for sale on Oct 22, 2026. It's an internal, source-checked training aid: not a certification, and not a review by the Tire Industry Association or a TIA-certified technician. For technician certification, use TIA's Automotive Tire Service (ATS) program.
Refunds?
All sales are final. If a file doesn't work, email hello@tireshopplaybook.com and we'll make it right.
